Pure nickel electrode mesh has become the preferred electrode material for commercial alkaline electrolyzers due to its outstanding combination of conductivity, chemical stability, and mechanical formability. The open mesh structure ensures even electrolyte flow, efficient hydrogen and oxygen bubble detachment, and highly uniform current density distribution across the active area. This reduces localized overpotentials, prevents hot spots, and significantly enhances overall electrolyzer efficiency and durability compared with solid plates or lower-purity alternatives. Suitable for both laboratory and large-scale stacks, the mesh supports catalyst coatings (e.g., Raney nickel, NiFe, NiMo) and is available in a wide range of mesh counts, wire diameters, and open areas to match specific electrolyzer designs.
